Sarcoidosis ~ A Quiet Epidemic!

There is a silent killer out there, plaguing the lives of so many . . . masquerading itself as other conditions (Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis and sometimes even Heart Attacks) but it cleverly manifests itself erratically within the cells and organs of innocent bystanders without “fair” warning!! This “mystery” inhabitant is called Sarcoidosis (Sar-coy-doe-sis) and it seeks to destroy!  Sarcoidosis has already “secretly” claimed the lives of so many people (those we know and some we don’t) and the list grows daily! It is up to us (Sarcoid suffers along with family & friends who helplessly standby us) to fight against this disease by speaking out loud about it!  It is our responsibility to shed light on the urgency of this quiet epidemic and find ways to hold it at bay . . . it’s a matter of life & living!

WHAT IS SARCOIDOSIS (sar-coy-doe-sis)?

Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that produces grain-like lumps called granulomas (formation of inflamed tissue) that usually develop in or near the lungs and causes enlarging of the lymph nodes. Sarcoidosis is known as a multi-systemic disorder because it has the ability to affect any system in the body; the lungs, heart, eyes, liver, kidneys, skin and the central nervous system including the brain! Sarcoidosis is not contagious but it can potentially be fatal due to its erratic behavior in the body, the absence of effective treatments that have the ability to control the progression of this disease and the fact that there is NO KNOWN CURE!!

Through "A Song for Life Sarcoidosis Foundation" it is my desire and my personal quest to raise awareness about Sarcoidosis through the personal experiences of sufferers and their families. It is my hope that real life experiences accompanied by current medical research and information about natural alternatives will aid in managing this disease while providing an edge toward beating it.

If you or someone you know suffer from Sarcoidosis please post your thoughts, questions, concerns and most of all your experience with this disease!

Please Speak Out . . . An active voice is more effective than quiet compassion!

SARCOIDOSIS RESEARCH

Research in Sarcoidosis is so very important . . . Without research programs and the participation of patience, it will be quite difficult to find a cause and cure!

The University of Iowa is conducting an online survey for people affected by Sarcoidosis called W.I.S.E. - WORLDWIDE SARCOIDOSIS RESEARCH STUDY. This survey was set up to assist researchers in collecting data that will help them better understand the disease and it's global impact. I encourage ALL of you living with Sarcoidosis to register and complete this online questionnaire at your convenience by going to:www.sarcoidstudy.org
